Yesterday was a great day for me. Together with a friend I hiked up to the top of 4 (!) Fourteeners here in Colorado. Mother Nature decided to make it possible that you can hike several Fourteeners in one day – the peaks are accessible from the same trail head. But make no mistake, this was not a walk in the park. This was hard work. It took us 5 Hours and 47 minutes to hike 7.25 miles and we ranged in altitude from 11,962 (trail head) to 14,286 (Mount Lincoln) – see my Endomondo Sports Tracker Summary here. We even got caught in a nasty thunderstorm on the way down from the last mountain top. The weather changed from partially cloudy to thunderstorm in about 20 minutes.
Ah, what a great morning. I had slept very well and felt refreshed and ready for a good workout session at the gym. The legs felt good and strong and so I hopped on the treadmill and started walking and then after warming up I started to run. Mile #1 went by in no time. Since the beginning of April I have been changing my workout routine a lot. My goal was/is to become a better runner. I was stuck in the six to seven mile range and that bothered me a lot. In the beginning of April I switched Gyms and I joined a local 24 Hour Fitness. When I signed up I was able to land a free 3 session package with a personal trainer. Now almost 2 months later my additional efforts are paying off. [Read more...]
