Help For Under Eye Bags

You’ve probably heard lots of people joke about the effects of gravity on our body as it ages. Everything starts to point south some people say!

Believe it or not, this old saying applies to our eyes as well. That blasted gravity even pulls down the skin under our eyes causing those bags that we hate so much.

Gravity is not the only culprit though. The muscles around our eyes weaken with age just the same as other muscles, and as they weaken and stretch, they also start to droop.

The other ingredient in this recipe for wrinkles is fat. Normally we have small fat deposits under our eyes that help protect them. But alas, as with all of our other fat cells, they start to sag as we age, again resulting in that saggy baggy under eye look.

Unfortunately, under eye bags can also be caused by heredity. If others in your family have puffy lower lids, you most likely will too.

So what can we do? Are we doomed to being a generation of saggy eyed seniors? Fortunately the answer to that question is no! There are some things we can do to help keep our skin toned and our eyes looking young.

While a lack of sleep has not been proven to cause baggy under eyes, it definitely doesn’t help. Be sure to get at least seven hours of good sleep every night.

Keep salty foods to a minimum as they cause the body to retain water which makes us look puffy.

Although we don’t have a lot of control over external pollutants that bother our eyes, you should always be careful not to rub them as this may irritate them and increase under eye bags.

As always, be sure to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. This helps to keep the skin around the eyes smooth and elastic.

It is for the tightening of these muscles and skin that makes most people turn to creams and even surgical procedures to reduce the appearance of under eye bags.
