Day 5 of the “Eat no Bread” Challenge

The challenge is going well so far. I am not feeling starved of bread and I am finding enough other meal options that fit my schedule. It takes a lot more preparation and thought process in creating the meals – especially for lunch and dinner. I am sure time is most often an issue for people when it comes to preparing a healthy meal or a meal in general. Our society makes it too easy to pick up some food on the way home or to load the oven (or microwave) with some processed freezer foods.

Day 5 Breakfast

After having a different breakfast yesterday I made myself another milkshake for breakfast. This time I used Blueberries and a banana and the different flavor definitely made a difference. Again, this type of breakfast is prepared super-fast and works quite well for me in regards to hitting the gym shortly after breakfast. I’ve got plenty of energy when I hit the gym and I am barely feeling stuffed – which would make it difficult to work out.

Lunch

I had veggies for lunch. To be more specific, I had pre-cut cucumber slices, sliced yellow and orange peppers for lunch. Of course that was not everything I had, but it made the majority of my lunch. I also had some grapes and Blueberries for lunch. I was pretty much snacking away on these options between 11.00 AM and 1.00 PM and it kept me good for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 5 Dinner

Last night I had gotten some lean ground beef out of the freezer. Today I cooked it, then made some scrambled eggs, and then I mixed hot green chile with the egg and the ground beef. Added some Cholula hot sauce and dinner was ready. And if you spend enough time you can reduce the fat from the ground beef dramatically. First of all, I use really good quality ground beef which does not have that much fat anyway. Once the ground beef is cooked, I put it into a sieve and let it sit for a few minutes (I shake it a bit in between to have the fat/grease drip down). Then I put the ground beef on some paper towels which will soak up the remaining fat. The leftovers from this dinner I am going to use for lunch tomorrow. I will turn them into burritos accordingly.

Snacks and Drinks

I was hungry in between and had a bowl of Apple Jacks with Lactaid 2% Milk. Other than that I had mainly water and cup of Espresso after dinner.

Two more days to go. This challenge is fun. And of course it only works because my wife and my son are out of town visiting her parents. I am happy with the outcome of this challenge so far. The sad part is that the days only have 24 hours and that it can become very time consuming to cook good meals.
