Some never have to worry about gaining weight while others just have to look at a yummy chocolate dessert and the pounds are just piling up. In addition with childhood obesity on the rise more and more women in their 20s are looking for weight loss tips and ultimately for a weight loss solution. But as we all know there is no silver bullet when it comes to weight loss – no matter if we are in our 20s, 30s, or 40s.
But not all hope is lost and so I would like to offer you a few weight loss tips for women in their 20s.
Got Energy? You’re 20 something – use this for your advantage. Let your own body’s energy work FOR you. You might think you’re tired now after a long day at work, but get real – every morning when I head for a run I’ve seen more mature women that exercise on a regular base. Running, walking, or riding their bicycle – just look around and you realize that you just have been looking for excuses not do anything. You should be grateful for the energy that you have in your 20s.
So, how does this work? While we are young our metabolism is at its peak. This means that with just a little exercise by itself your body can burn lots of calories. Once you reach your 30s you would need to increase your workout volume by 25% to reach the same results compared to your 20s. So, just add some kind of physical exercise to your weekly routine. You can increase your metabolism by having enough sleep per night as well as by eating healthy (lots of fruit and veggies).
It is easy to start. Here is one easy trick that helps to shed pounds easily. When parking your car at work, make it a habit to park as far away from the building as possible. Then inside the building forget about the elevator and use the stairs. No add a few 30-60 minutes walks over the course of the week and eat in moderation and it is all good. In your 20’s YOU have the energy, so go and burn the calories!
Eat in moderation! Portion control is the most important skill for long term weight loss and weight control. YES, what we eat matters for sure. But what matters more is how much we eat. I am not saying to just eat junk food and to skip the healthy stuff, but honestly – you do not have to live like a vegan. It is Ok to indulge Pizza or a hamburger every once in a while. But those type of meals should not be the rule, more the exception. With everything else, eat in moderation and you will be fine.
Hot tip: use smaller plates. Even if you load them full of your favorite food, the smaller available volume helps a little bit to control how much you eat. Another hot tip: never put the food in bowls on your table to fill the plates. Studies have shown that the convenience of not leaving the table adds more calories to your intake. Get up and walk to the stove to refill your plate AND drink a small glass of water between refilling your plate. And if you are very disciplined with your choice of food, add veggies and fruits to your daily meal plan, especially when it comes to choosing a snack.
You don’t have to avoid alcoholic beverages. Many people like to enjoy a good glass of wine with our dinner. An ice-cold beer on a hot summer day is a great way to cool down. Relax, I am not going to those things away, but it is important to look at alcohol consumption in a different way. For one you need to change habits if you drink alcohol on a regular basis (daily). This would not only be a driving factor when it comes to gaining weight or not being able to lose weight, but it is also a health risk when thinking long-term. I personally actually think that a long drink or even a beer tastes much better if there were already a few days or even weeks between drinks. The enjoyment factor is much higher and you drink with more pleasure. So, again – moderation is key.
Another hot tip when it comes to alcohol. If you are a beer drinker switch drinks to light beer. If you drink wine or heavy cocktails, why not switch to maybe a Vodka Soda with Lime. 30% of the calories compared to other drinks. Another option is to match the number of drinks to a workout exercise. Ok, let me re-phrase that. Drink in moderation, but then use exercising to make up for each drink. So, let’s say you had 2 bottles of beer last night. To make up for those drinks walk 2 miles per bottle of beer the next day (here: 4 miles). In your 20’s this is an easy way to keep the weight under control and in combination with the other steps described above you should be able to lose weight easily in your 20s.
Quick Side Note: There would be no problems with teen alcohol abuse if parents properly educate their children about alcohol and drinking in general
There you have it – 3 weight loss tips for women in their 20s. It is so easy to lose weight while you’re in your 20s, all you have to do is to make some minor adjustments and you will be on your way to a great looking body.
